Assignments for Monday, 3/23/20

Religion - Children will discuss their experiences of being at Mass with their families. 
Discussion: Who is your parish family? (Discuss the people that attend Mass with you such as extended family, friends, neighbors etc...)
What is special about going to Mass with your family? 
Activity: Draw a picture of your Church and if you have finger paint have your child finger paint your parish family in the Church. (If you don't have finger paint use crayons or markers). 

Reading: Children will listen and respond to the story "Tug of War."

Vocabulary Words to Review: Jungle, Elephant, Hippopotamus, Porcupine, Quill, Clever, Tugging, Rope
Discussion: Who are the characters in this story? 
Where did the story take place?
What did the porcupine want to prove to the elephant and the hippo? Why? 
How did the porcupine feel at the end of the story? Why? 
Activity: Draw a picture of your favorite part of the story.

Phonemic Awareness: Play a rhyming word game, have children tell you words that rhyme with "mat, ten, pin, rot, sun."

Sight Words: Introduce the word of the week "my." Have children add their new word to their stack of index cards.  Have your child read and spell out the word.  Then have them use the word "my" in a sentence.  

Math - Children will use pictures of a ladybug to create an addition story and write a number sentence using the plus sign and the equal sign. 
Vocabulary: Add, Plus Sign, Equal Sign

Have children count the spots on the ladybug and on a piece of paper write the number sentence.
