- Tomorrow Monday, January 29th Open House from 9am - 11am.

- Friday, Feb. 2nd Early Dismissal 12 noon for Parent/Teacher Conferences.  Conferences will be held from 3:00pm - 8:00pm. 

This Week Children will be learning the following:
- Religion: Children will recognize that they are made by God to have feelings.
- Science: Children will learn about the states of matter.
- Phonemic Awareness: Children will blend sounds to decode words.
- Phonics: Children will associate d for /d/, l for /l/, a for /a/.
- Reading Comprehension: Children will recognize rhythm and rhyme.
- Math: Children will understand addition as the joining of two groups. Children will add 3 more and 4 more.  Children will read and add numbers in vertical form.
- Social Studies: Children will learn what hibernation means and which animals hibernate.  Children will learn about Groundhog's Day.

This Week Children will be learning the following:
- Religion: Children will learn about God's gift of people. Children will listen and respond to the Bible story, "Noah's Ark."
- Science: Children will learn that when salt is mixed with ice it lowers the freezing point and the ice will melt. Children will experiment with ice cubes, thread and salt to show how the salt melts the ice.
- Phonemic Awareness: Children will learn to identify beginning and ending sound /l/.  Children will identify rhyming words.
- Phonics: Children will identify uppercase and lowercase Ll.
- Reading Comprehension: Children will draw conclusions from pictures.
- Math: Children will understand addition as the joining of two groups. Children will add 1 more and 2 more.

Note:
- Annette Pastor, NYCDOE Social Worker left a calendar after this mornings workshop filled with activities you can do at home with your child during the month of February.  She also has provided a form for you to fill out to access a library card for your child.  Please return the form to me immediately and Ms. Pastor will pick up the cards herself from the library for all the children.  Once all the children have their library cards we will begin making class trips to the library. Calendar and library card form was sent home today in your child's homework folder.

-  Welcome Back to School!  I hope everyone had a wonderful break.  I'm excited to be back and to see the children continue to blossom as we continue the second half of our school year.  I would like to also thank all the families for the beautiful Christmas gifts. Thank you all so much!

- Reading Comprehension: Children will be introduced to "Sal" a new SuperKid and will discuss all the different kinds of sports Sal enjoys doing with his friends.
