Family Home Project

Dear Parents,

As you have read in our blog our class is currently learning about “Family.”  We are having wonderful engaging discussions on the importance of our families.  We are learning that all families are different, some families are small, and some are bigger.  How some families only have a mommy or daddy, or maybe just grandparents, and aunts/uncles.  More importantly, the children are learning that our families are the people to whom we belong, who love and care for us and that God’s love comes to us through them.

To conclude our “Family Unit” at the end of this month, every student is to complete a Family Home Project.  On a poster board I would like you to help your child make a “Family Collage” of their favorite family moments.  Be as creative as you wish with your child.  You could use real home photos to answer the questions, have your child draw the pictures themselves, use magazine pictures to cut and paste or any other creative way to answer the questions.

Family Collage must show the following:

-    -  Title:  My Family – Paste photo of family, or draw a picture of them.
-    -  Where my family comes from.  (Country of origin)
-    -  My favorite family tradition.
-    -  How I show love to my family.
-    -  How I help my family.
-    -  My favorite family activity.

Project Due Date:  Monday, November 28, 2011.  I would like one parent or guardian to please join us on this day at 8:30am to present the collage with their child as a “Family Show and Tell.”
I look forward to seeing all the beautiful work and wonderful presentations.  Thank you all for your participation!

Ms. Rodriguez

Welcome to Pre-K 2

August 24, 2011

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Pre-K 2!  I would like to take this time to introduce myself.  My name is Elizabeth Rodriguez.  I am beginning my twelfth year as an early childhood educator and for the last seven years I’ve had the privilege to work within the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of New York.  This will be my second year at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School and I am committed to providing a solid, well-rounded, academic program, in a caring, nurturing environment to your child.  As parents I understand the high expectations you have of me as your child’s teacher, but as your child’s teacher I also have high expectations of all my parents and together we will work to help your child achieve their highest potential.  I welcome you and your child and I look forward to an extremely exciting new school year!

Please find attached the needed supply list for this school year.  I will continue to provide any important information through this blog.  Curriculum, daily schedule and class rules will be discussed at the Parent/Teacher meeting on Sept. 6th.  I look forward to meeting everyone.

Farewell 1st Graders!

Dear Parents,
Just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all of your support and for entrusting your children to me.  I also want to thank you for being so welcoming towards me as a new member of the OLQM community.  I am very proud of my decision to have joined this community because I see the commitment of the families towards their childrens' education.  I urge everyone to continue working with your children and guiding them in making good choices and working hard in 2nd grade. I could not be any prouder of all the children, they have worked extremely hard. It is my hope that they continue in the 2nd grade with the same dedication and eagerness as they gave in the 1st grade.
Please continue reviewing over the vacation, remember that in two months a lot can be forgotten.  There are wonderful practice books at Amazon.com or Barnes & Nobles to help prepare for 2nd grade or to help them prepare for standardized test (ITBS).  Make sure your child is reading every single day.  They went home with two bags filled with books, also take them to the library to choose books they would enjoy reading.  Go over all the math concepts they learned this year and keep writing.  Have them start a summer journal and write about anything they want.
God Bless and have a Happy and Safe Summer!!!!

Sincerely,
Ms. Rodriguez
