Mid-Term Review

I hope everyone is enjoying their vacation and I hope everyone is also reviewing daily!

Reminders:
-  Review all vocabulary words in classwork notebooks.
-  Study Review sheets for Religion, Science and Social Studies in classwork notebooks.
-  Review identifying sentences in Grammar books --- Telling, Asking, Commanding and Exclaiming sentences.  Make sure children understand all sentences begin with an uppercase letter and end with a punctuation mark.
-  Complete review sheets that were sent home.
-  Read books from reading bags and home library for at least 15 min. a day.  After reading ask your child comprehending questions.  I know they are able to read those books but I want them to review the skill of comprehending what they are reading.

Reading Tips (Some Questions to ask your child during and after reading a book)
-  Make predictions
    a.  What do you think this story will be about by reading the title?
    b.  What do you think will happen next in the story?
    c.  Confirm predictions
-  What is the main idea?
-  What are some details?
-  What happened First, Next, and Last in the story?
-  What is the setting?  (Where did the story take place?)
-  What is the problem and solution in the story?
-  When you come to a word you cannot read blend all the sounds together.
-  If you do not know the meaning of any particular word, use a Children Dictionary to look up the word and use it in your own sentence.  Also, identify synonyms and antonyms for that word for better understanding.

    Regarding Progress Reports

    Dear Parents,

There was a computer error on the progress reports.  For some unknown reason the system is calculating homework assignments with a 70.00, which brought the averages down in most of the subjects.  Please disregard the subjects that are marked with a 70.00, that is not your child's average for that particular subject..  The problem is being addressed and will be corrected for the 1st quarter report cards.  I apologize for the confusion, I know everyone panicked last week when you saw the low grades, if you already have your password for the SIS you may go on and see your child's progression.  If you have further questions please let me know.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,
    Ms. Rodriguez
