Week of 9/28/20 - 10/2/20

News of the Week 

- Tuesday, September 29th we will have Mass at 9:00am 

- I want to remind all parents of remote learners to please remember to upload homework assignments to Google classroom so I can review the assignments were completed and see your child's progress. 


This week the children will be learning the following: 

Religion - Children will learn about God's creations.  Children will learn about the importance of praying and talking to God. 

Reading - Children will listen and respond to the story Little Red Riding Hood. 

Phonemic Awareness - Children will learn letter sounds /a/ and /b/. 

Phonics - Children will identify uppercase and lowercase Aa and Bb. 

Math -  Children will count and write numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4.  Children will count groups of objects to 4. 

Science - Children will continue to learn about the role of a scientist. Children will do a sink and float experiment.

Social Studies - Children will understand how we all must follow rules to keep ourselves safe.

- Tomorrow we will be doing a Fingerprint Science Experiment.  If you have the following materials available at home your child will be able to do the experiment along with us. 

Fingerprint Experiment Materials:

- Baby Powder, Flour or Powdered Sugar (Any of these will work for the experiment, you just need one)

- Scotch Tape or Clear Packing Tape

This week the children will be learning the following: 

Religion - Children will learn about God's love and how God cares for us through others.  Children will also learn about being good helpers. 

Reading - Children will listen and respond to stories about their Five Senses.  Children will create their own picture book about the five senses. 

Phonemic Awareness - Children will repeat a sequence of words. 

Phonics - Children will recognize the written form of their first and last names. 

Math - Children will sort into two groups.  Children will count and write numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4. 

Science - Children will understand the different skills scientists use to learn about the world. Children will explore with a fingerprint experiment. 

Social Studies - Children will understand how we all must follow rules to keep ourselves safe.

Week of 9/14/20 - 9/18/20

 News of the Week 

- Please return all forms by tomorrow including 2 emergency cards. 

- We are still working on our schedule and as of now our lunch period will be from 12:00pm - 12:30pm, naptime will be from 12:45pm - 1:30pm and children will be taken out to play to the school backyard by Mr. Eric and Mrs. Gomez every Tuesday 11:15am - 12:00pm and Thursdays from 9:45am - 10:30am. 

- Tomorrow I will be sending home your child's information for logging into Google Classroom, you will receive an email and a temporary password.  Please remember to check Google Classroom for class news and assignments as you do with this blog as well. 

- Parents of virtual learners please remember to pick up your child's forms, packet and books at the school office. 

- I have posted the first assignment on Google Classroom on a number chant I would like the children to practice at home.

This week the children will be learning the following: 

Religion - Children will learn about God's love and how God gives us the gift of Jesus and our friends.  Children will experience their new group as a warm welcoming community of friends. 

Reading - Children will listen and respond to stories and songs that describe things that make them special and unique.  Children will also listen and respond to stories and songs that describe their body parts. 

Phonemic Awareness - Children will repeat a sequence of words. 

Phonics - Children will learn concepts of letters. 

Math - Children will match two objects that are exactly the same. Children will also learn about two objects that are exactly the same, but... (describe how they are slightly different). 

Science - Children will understand the different skills scientists use to learn about the world.

Important Note to Parents

 Mr. Woods has decided to change the arrival time for tomorrow to 7:45am since everything went very smooth this morning with the arrivals of all the classes.  

Virtual learners please log into Zoom at 8:15am.

Also, please return all the forms I sent home today in your child's homework folder.  Remember to fill out 2 emergency cards and please make sure both cards have the same information as one card is filed at the office and the other in the classroom.

The parents of my virtual learners I will have your forms ready to pick up along with a packet, books and other materials to be picked up this Friday.

Note to Parents

 Dear Parents, 

I want to remind everyone that the arrival time for tomorrow September 9th and Thursday, September 10th will be at 9:00am.  Dismissal will be at 3:00pm and we will dismiss by the Sherman Street exit doors.  If someone other than parents will be picking up your child please send me a note with your child in the morning and call the school office to notify Ms. Alba.  

To the parents of my remote learners please check your emails as I will be emailing you all the information you need to log in through Zoom and Google Classroom.  

If anyone still needs to purchase the notebook I requested in the supply list from our school supply room you may send $1.75 in an envelope and we will purchase the notebook for you tomorrow.   Also, please remember to label all supplies and the bag you will be bringing supplies in with your child's name on it and grade level Pre-K 2.

Note to Parents

Thank you all for taking time to speak to me this morning, I know its very uncomfortable to engage through Zoom but I hope I was able to answer all your questions and concerns.  For those that were not able to attend I have provided a link below so you can review our classroom regulations.  I want to remind all parents that arrival time for Wednesday September 9th will be at 9:00am.  Upon arrival you will be requested to sign a form stating your child does not have a fever.  If you have any further questions or concerns you can email me at msrodriguez@olqmnyc.org.
