-  Try to read a book everyday to your child and help them identify story characters, setting, and retelling story in sequence order. This week we will continue reading stories on Animals and we will also explore with reading different versions of the story "The Nightingale."
- This week for Math children will be counting, composing and decomposing numbers to 8.  Children will continue to write addition equations. 
-  Identify the following Uppercase and Lowercase Letters: Mm, Tt, Rr, Ss, Cc, Pp, Aa, Nn, Dd, Ll, Gg, Ii, Bb, Oo, Ee and Jj.
-  Identify and Read Sight Words: I, my, the, and, see, in, a, can, go, to, little, big, jump, for, find, make.
-  Identify Color Words: red, blue, yellow, purple, green, black
-  Identify and construct 2D shapes: triangles, squares, rectangles and circles. 
   Identify 3D shapes:  cone, cylinder, sphere, cube, rectangular prism, and pyramid.

Week of 1/18/16 - 1/22/16

News of the Week
- Family Project Due Tomorrow: Create a collage using magazine pictures of real world objects with 3D shapes. 

- School Mass - Thursday, Jan.21st 9am.  

- On Thursday Mr. Woods will be attending a meeting regarding registration for the 2016-2017 school year. As of today we are to begin registration for new students for Kindergarten and re-registration of present students on February 1, 2016.  Mr. Woods was also informed that scholarships will be available for students who are entering Kindergarten and new students coming from public schools in grades 1-6.

Reminders:
- Dress Down for $1. tomorrow.
- School Closed on Monday, Jan. 18th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Math Family Project Due: Tuesday, Jan. 19th.  Children are to cut out pictures of real world objects with 3D shapes.  For example: For the 3D shape of a sphere they can cut out balls, oranges, apples, marbles; for the 3D shape of a cylinder they can cut out pictures of ice cream cones or traffic cones, etc... On the blog and newsletter I have posted which 3D shapes the children have learned about, you can incorporate those in the collage.

Week of 1/4/16 - 1/8/16

Dear Parents, 
I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and thank you for all the beautiful Christmas cards, generous gifts and warm wishes. I hope everyone had a restful and joyous break and now we are ready to continue helping your children reach more important milestones through their Pre-K journey. 

News of the Week
- Thursday, Jan. 7th PreK Parent Workshop - "Positive Parenting" in the Parent Conference Room. Presentation will be given by Ms. Nancy Dubin MSW from Thera Care.  If you would like to attend please let me know so that appropriate seating may be arranged. 

- Friday, Jan. 8th Early Dismissal 12 noon, Faculty Meeting.  Progress Reports will be sent home as well. 

Lessons of the Week: 
Math: Children will identify 3D shapes.  Children will identify which 3D shapes roll, stack or slide. 
Reading: Children will listen and respond to the story "Jingles, Poems and Rhymes" from our Rowland Reading Program. 
Religion: Children will explore the world of animals and appreciate them as God's gift to us. 
Social Studies: Children will listen and respond to "The Mitten." Children will identify and describe the different winter animals from the story.
Science: Children will participate in an experiment in creating instant snow for their winter animals. 
Music and Movement: Children will learn the song "Animal Friends."
Blocks Center: Children will use blocks to create animal habitats. 
Art Center: Children will use tempera paint to create their favorite animals.
