Week of 10/19/20 - 10/23/20

 News of the Week

- Please read the school blog regarding vaccinations.

- This week we will have an evacuation drill and the children will be walking up to the Cloisters at Ft. Tryon Park.

- On Tuesday, Oct.20th Liam Taveras will be celebrating his 4th Birthday with his classmates.  Liam's Mom will be ordering Pizza and cupcakes from the bakery.  Children do not need to bring lunch on Tuesday.  We are following all Health Dept regulations and nothing from home will be brought into the classroom for birthday parties or any other classroom celebrations.  For that reason "Goody Bags" are not allowed.  Liam's Mom has decided to send in pumpkins for each child to decorate instead.

- On Friday, Oct. 30th we will be having a Halloween party for the children in the class. I am asking for $5. dollars to order pizza from Domino's Pizza and cupcakes from the bakery.  Since we cannot share anything or bring anything from our homes, please have your child bring in their own juice, water bottle and their own personal bag of chips.

- I want to remind all parents of remote learners to please remember to upload homework assignments to Google classroom so I can review the completed assignments and check your child's progress.

This week the children will be learning the following:

Religion - Children will learn about God's gift of birds and fish.

Reading - Children will listen and respond to the story The Three Bears.

Phonemic Awareness - Children will learn letter sounds /c/ and /d/.

Phonics - Children will identify uppercase and lowercase Cc and Dd.

Math -  Children will construct triangles, circles, rectangles and squares.

Science - Children will learn about the life cycle pumpkins. Children will experiment with Halloween candies and observe which will sink or float in different substances.

Social Studies: Children will learn about the job of a farmer on a pumpkin patch.
